AFTER reading that a council lorry damaged the railings outside Jessops in York's Coppergate, (August 31), my question is: what was he doing there in the first place?
The sign at the bottom of Coppergate says buses and taxis only and deliveries.
I am a private hire driver and I should like to think I speak for most bus and taxi drivers in York about the lack of policing of the city centre during the restricted times, Coppergate being the worst, along with Piccadilly, Pavement and Stonebow.
Drivers in private cars seem to think signs are just put up for fun. I hope the council and police can get together to sort this out before a pedestrian becomes the next casualty.
