SO City of York Council and First York have done it again - improved the bus routes they say. But not as far as the No 26 is concerned.

Certainly not for my neighbour who uses the early bus to get to work at Leeman Road, or the young woman who works at Monks Cross - our first bus is now at 9.27am.

People who shop at Monks Cross fare no better. How many people are going to wait for a connection while standing in the cold and wet with two or three bags of shopping? For some getting one bus is a struggle, never mind two.

Pity the poor bus drivers who, by the time they have completed the tortuous route they have been given, will be old enough to draw their pensions.

And definitely not for me. As a regular user of the 26 to visit my son on Stockton Lane I'm one of the lucky ones... I shall use the car and pollute the atmosphere.

Is there a hidden agenda? If people stop using this bus, as many will, City of York Council will withdraw it saving lots of money. If something ain't broke don't fix it.

Mrs Claire Usher,

St Stephen's Road,
