EVER fancied yourself as a dashing Derek Hood, Gordon Staniforth or Dale Banton?

If the answer's yes then then ditch the razor and let your whiskers grow because Yorkie are encouraging City fans to grow moustaches for charity.

Yorkie are the sponsors of this year's TacheBack campaign and Minstermen fans are being set the challenge to prove how manly they really are by sporting facial fluff.

Yorkie want fans all over the UK to wear 'Taches on the Terraces' throughout September to raise money for the testicular and prostate cancers charity Everyman.

And, with York being the spiritual home of the chunky chocolate bar, it is hoped Bootham Crescent will be awash with supporters who look like extras from a Village People video or a Harry Enfield comedy sketch.

The idea is part of Yorkie's Not for Girls campaign and will see celebrities and members of the public being sponsored to grow a tache to fund work at the Everyman Centre, which is the only dedicated male cancer research centre in Europe.

Yorkie and Everyman want teams and supporters to get involved in Taches on the Terraces to help raise money for TacheBack, the sponsored moustache growing event which raised thousands of pounds last year for vital research into male cancers.

As well as raising money for the cause, tache growers also have the chance to enter The Yorkie Multiple Muzzy Award by roping in teams, clubs or groups of mates to grow their taches together.

The winners get to attend the VIP tache party later this month, which was attended by the likes of Dermot O'Leary last year.

Football's most famous tache-wearer Chris Kamara has lent his support to the charity event and said: "For years I've sported a tache with pride so I jumped at the chance to get involved with TacheBack.

"It's a great campaign giving blokes the chance to have a bit of a laugh, raise some money for a worthy cause and feel like real men.

"It would be brilliant to see Taches on the Terraces at Bootham Crescent."

We have come up with a moustached all-time York City XI who you might want to model your new look on.

1 Chris Marples, 2 Derek Hood, 3 John Stone, 4 Nigel Pepper, 5 Chris Topping, 6 Alan Kamara, 7 Tony Canham, 8 Dale Banton, 9 Keith Walwyn, 10 Gordon Staniforth, 11 Gary Ford.

Substitutes could well comprise Gary Swann, John Woodward, Paul Johnson and Tony Barratt, and there's surely only one candidate for manager - Charlie Wright.

That team would not have had a problem with firepower but, in recent times, three-goal Minstermen victories, like last weekend's at Dagenham & Redbridge, have been about as common as an England game without a David Beckham injury scare.

In fact, it is more than three years since the Minstermen won by the same margin on their travels when, on August 18, 2001, City trounced Torquay 3-0 to record the club's first win of the season.

Only management duo Chris Brass and Lee Nogan were on duty at Plainmoor that day from the current playing staff with the assistant manager joining Mike Basham and Lee Bullock on the scoresheet.

Saturday's victory was also City's first treble haul since the 3-1 home defeat of Cambridge United in March, 2003 under Terry Dolan.

Nogan was also on target then, as were Jon Parkin and Anthony Shandran.

You then have to go back nearly two years to find the last time City netted three on away soil - the 4-3 LDV Vans Trophy defeat at Lincoln City when Nogan (again), Parkin and Lee Cook netted on October 10, 2002.

City's last three-goal winning margin was almost 17 months ago when, you've guessed it, Nogan scored with a Michael Proctor effort and an own goal completing a 3-0 home victory over Bristol Rovers in April, 2002.

If City had managed another goal at Victoria Road last Saturday, it would have been the club's biggest away win since April 18, 1995 when Paul Baker (2), Steve Bushell, Jon McCarthy and Graeme Murty netted in a 5-0 victory.

LAST season's Evening Press Player of the Year Darren Dunning is the front-runner in the 2004/2005 ratings.

Dunning's second man-of-the-match award of the season at Dagenham & Redbridge saw him move three points clear of nearest rival Andy Bishop.

Midfielder Gary Pearson picked up two points in only his second appearance of the season and skipper Steve Davis also received a point.

Current standings: Dunning 9, Bishop 6, Davis 3, Robinson 3, Stockdale 3, Donovan 2, Merris 2, Pearson 2, Brass 1, Crichton 1, Law 1.

Teenage goalkeeper David Stockdale won our fans' vote for man of the match at Dagenham and collects two points in the Preston and Duckworth Jewellers/Evening Press Player of the Month for September contest.

Current standings: Dunning 3, Pearson 2, Stockdale 2, Davis 1.
