Pocklington overcame Ripon 15-0 in a hard fought Yorkshire Two encounter.

Pocklington looked the livelier attackers and had a score disallowed after only five minutes when a last pass bobbled just forward.

But Ripon competed throughout and it was only midway through the second half that Pocklington's third score enabled them to relax.

After Pocklington's bright start, in which player-coach Guy Hope always looked dangerous in the centre, Ripon came back to enjoy their best spell which saw them almost break through in midfield and had American fly-half Richard Rua fire two penalties wide.

The deadlock remained unbroken until four minutes before the interval when Pocklington won a line-out near the corner flag and drove over for flanker Dan Wilson to touch down.

Pocklington then made the perfect start to the second half, pinning Ripon on their own line with a long kick and then moving the ball wide for wing Karl Hart to score.

Kevin Bowling hit a post with the conversion and was sure it had bounced in, but the officials thought otherwise.

The exchanges remained even, with Pocklington occasionally threatening to cut loose only to drop the ball at crucial moments, and it took another close-range line-out to seal the game.

They again drove to the line through their forwards but this time scrum half Sam Rees dummied and dived in for the final score of the day.
