Heworth'S winless start to the National Conference division two continued with a crushing 30-point defeat at Widnes St Maries.

A second half romp by the hosts transformed the game from close to anything but as they ran in 28 unanswered points in the second period.

A Gavin Grant interception try for Heworth had them right in it at 6-4 but when Andy Benson touched down to make it 12-4 after an early second half penalty, Heworth were knocked completely off their stride.

Benson produced a 70-metre crowd-pleasing try to stamp their authority on the game, and Kieran Walker and Carl Leech added another two to heap on the misery for the Villagers.

Adam Flanagan scored the opening four-pointer and Carl O'Docherty kicked a total of five goals.
