SUPER Jonny Waldron ran in four tries for York Acorn to help turn a ten-point deficit into their first National League division two win.

The versatile player set his side alight with a devastating four-minute hat-trick to spearhead an impressive 52-10 victory against newcomers Ovenden.

Ovenden were first out of the blocks with a second-minute Ben Barton try, Matt Collins goal and Dave Hebblethwaite touchdown setting up an early ten-point cushion.

But Waldron then struck with his first three tries, and Kevin Brundrett added two conversions and two goals to make it 20-10 at half-time.

The second half boasted more of the same Acorn dominance as Brundrett scored a fifth goal early on before Mick Embleton and Lee McTigue crossed the whitewash within minutes of each other.

Stand-off Andy Lee continued the try-rout before Embleton ran in a second and Waldron his fourth as the clock ticked down.

Brundrett confirmed the points with his ninth and tenth goals of the match to take his personal haul to 20 after converting every second half try to see Acorn comfortably home.

The result carries Acorn into a good-looking mid-table position with the best equal goal difference after two games.
