I thank the council for deciding to run a road safety campaign. Although it is a shame that its aim focuses on those who have to drive, many because of their work.

Last November I proposed a motion to council asking that they highlight the danger of "amber gambling" and red light-running.

This was thrown out by the ruling Lib Dem Group as being impractical. I am glad there has now been a move towards a change of mind.

We are now entering the period of darker mornings and evenings and it should be the council's priority to ensure all residents can move around the road network without fear of the actions of others.

I would like to ask that the campaign is extended to all road users, including cars, motorcycles and cyclists.

Extending this campaign now could save injury caused by speeding and light-jumping.
