MANY Terry's workers have been at the factory since they left school. Reporter Richard Edwards asked them their thoughts on a black day for York.

Paul Illingworth, of Dringhouses, York, has worked at Terry's for 16 years. He said: "I'm not surprised. I have been expecting it for a couple of years. I am a warehouse worker - we are usually the last to go. After that, I'll have to start looking elsewhere."

Dean Eiles, of Rawcliffe, York, has put in 19 years service. He said: "The writing has been on the wall.

"Sales to America have totally plummeted and it has hit us hard. I have been here since school and don't know any different, but there is nothing we can do."

Graham Haigh, of Burnholme, York, has put in 20 years service at Terry's.

He said: "We don't know any different, but we are going to have to. The property market in York is massive and this is going to end up as flats."
