A NEW York Unique-Phoenix Darts League record was set when Sun beat Shepherd SC in the semi-final of the PDL Trophy.

A total of 58 tons-plus scores were posted in the titanic encounter.

After losing the team game, Sun hit back through Kev Walton-Dave Gibbons before Chris Thompson-Jon O'Mara closed out a 21-dart 701 leg.

Shepherd rallied with Heath Scaife (16) defeating O'Mara 2-1, then Mick Willsden took out Thompson (180 for 19) 2-1 with legs of 18 (116 finish) and 19. Gibbons (19) levelled before Walton sealed the win.

Sun will meet Cygnet, who beat Hospital Social Club 'A' 4-1, in the final.

Kev O'Hara hit two maximums to give Cygnet an early lead. Cygnet added the pairs before Dave Binks pulled one back.

O'Hara hit his third 180 for 19 and added a 14-darter to secure the victory.

Sun's Thompson, Gibbons and O'Mara were also in action in the triples semi-final and booked a final place after a 2-0 victory over Mike Harris, Rob Henman and Stu Morton (Acomb SC).

Sun will play HSC 'A's John Smith, Nick Harteveld and Phil Good who defeated Ebor's Mark Hartley, Paul Armstrong and Tony Raymond 2-0.

In the pairs semi-final, Thompson and O'Mara defeated Scaife and Willsden 2-0 and will meet the Robinson brothers, Sean and Paul, from Phoenix after their walkover against the Rose and Crown.

Flag's Steve Simpson and Acorn's Lee Brundrett will contest the division two individual final. Simpson beat Toni Smallwood (Hospital Social Club 'B') with legs of 27 and 21, while Brundrett recorded 22 and 23-darters to take out Clifton's Paul Brandon.

Cygnet 'A's Neil Caywood took the deciding leg with a 16 darter against HSC 'A's John Smith to qualify for the division one individual final, where he will meet Chris Thompson, who defeated Ebor's Tony Raymond.
