A RECORD 1,200 runners lined up at Castle Howard, near Malton, yesterday to pound it out for Cancer Research UK.
Taking in some of the breathtaking scenery which surrounds the castle, the 10k challenge was one of ten stately home running events arranged across the UK this month.
Almost every runner at Castle Howard had a connection with cancer, either having battled the disease themselves or having lost a loved one to it.
They each wore a sign on their backs naming the person they were running in memory of, or in celebration of.
Melanie Heath, event organiser with the charity, said the event was a tremendous success.
"We had 615 runners last year, so this year was almost double that. They should raise over £60,000 in sponsorship, which is absolutely amazing."
The first runner to complete the run did so in 35 minutes, which Melanie said was an outstanding achievement.
