A NEW venture called Quartz Travel will open in Heworth Road, York, on November 1.
The man behind the new travel agency is Paul Smith, former sales manager of Star Clippers, the luxury cruise operator.
He said: "I am taking on two staff, but I'm braced to expand further once the business takes off."
Mr Smith, 30, believes that he has an advantage in the sector because of his previous experience, which includes being in the cabin crew of long-haul British Airways flights, later selling Concorde flights for BA and organising tailor-made holidays and weddings abroad for BA's Premier customers.
"Knowledge is not only power but competition, and I can pit myself against the best of the multiples because of it," he said.
