YORK RUFC U12s started the season in fine style by winning the Morley Festival.

All four of their matches were won without conceding a try, while scoring 17 tries of their own.

Dominic Eaves's try earned them a 5-0 win over Pocklington in the opening game.

Tries from Alex Enos (2), Adam Johnson, Jared Bainbridge, Jack Maud and Eaves demolished hosts Morley 30-0.

Old Brodlieans were then defeated 20-0 with scores from Maud (2), Bainbridge and Will Spiers.

York went into their final match against Yarnbury knowing that a draw would be enough for them to win the tournament for the sixth year in succession.

But the York boys did not rest on their laurels and eased home 30-0 with tries by Eddie Bradshaw (2), Eaves, Maud, Joe Hall and Robert Forsyth.

York's Under 8s also triumphed at Morley.

The squad was rotated through all five matches which saw them beat Pocklington 4-3, Morley 6-4, Old Brodleians 10-5 but lose 6-3 to Leodiensians.

The final match, against Yarnbury, was drawn 5-5 and York won the trophy from Leons on tries scored after the teams were level on points and try difference.

The winning York U8 squad was Ed Stephenson, Mark Whitmore, Bob Simpson, George Atkinson, Martin Sowerby, Ed Stephens, Oliver Leedham, Jake Stephenson, Callum Simpson Rhys Whitby, Cameron Atkinson, William Crux, Ben Whitmore, Henry Akehurst, Toby Curtis, Ben Gibson and Jack Parker.
