WE learned that the York Older Citizens' Advocacy applied to the city council for a grant of £1,100 to support its work. It was refused on the grounds that no funds were available (Diary, September 23).
Shortly afterwards, a grant of £5,000 was made towards the cost of Christmas lights!
As an indication of the priorities of City of York Council, that is a deplorable situation.
Is the council prepared to dismiss the needs and concerns of the many old people who pay taxes?
