NORTH Yorkshire racing trainers are claiming that a new handicapping system is causing a crisis.
Mick Easterby, of Sheriff Hutton, Tim Easterby, of Great Habton near Malton, Richard Fahey (Malton), Kevin Ryan (Hambleton), Brian Smart (Sutton Bank), John Quinn (Settrington) and Nigel Tinkler (Malton) along with Leyburn's Karl Burke have all publicly condemned the reforms.
In a joint letter to a racing paper they say that because of the new system introduced by the British Horseracing Board they are struggling to run horses anywhere in Britain as the changes are leading horses outside a narrow band to be eliminated from races.
Market Weighton trainer Mike Sowersby had one horse eliminated eight times last month. The trainers want the former system to return.
