MARY Speed was subjected to a horrible ordeal at the hands of a teenage girl mugger.

The 78-year-old was one of two pensioners assaulted by the young thief. She has a right to be angry.

Instead Mrs Speed has shown astonishing understanding of her attacker. And she says that the "true spirit" of Clifton - kindness, neighbourliness, community - has overcome this dark deed.

What a truly uplifting message of forgiveness and hope.
