THERE seems to be some confusion around at the moment regarding the dates of the traditional autumnal angling events on the Ouse.

The Yorkshire Ouse Championship is traditionally held on the Ouse above York on the final Sunday in October.

The organisers however seem to have overlooked the fact that the last is October 31 and tickets were printed showing the match to be this Sunday, October 24.

As numerous tickets had already been sold it was decided to honour the date on the ticket. So the match definitely takes place this Sunday with the draw at the Alice Hawthorne in Nun Monkton.

That other annual favourite, the Hammond Trophy, is always fished a fortnight after the Ouse Championship which would not be a problem if moving the match forward a week didn't mean it now clashes with the Tower Trophy which is booked on York waters below the city on the same day, November 7.

Both events will go ahead on November 7.

Only two notices of motion were received for this year's annual general meeting which will be held at St Clements Club on November 9.

The first is that the general purposes committee be given the power to shut fisheries for night fishing without ratification from an AGM. This is as a direct response to problems that have arisen on certain fisheries, which is not always of the anglers' making.

The second is a relaxation of the rule banning radios, which will now permit their use on amalgamation fisheries providing personal headphones are used.
