Two-goal Adam Arthur helped carry York City Reserves to a 2-2 draw against Doncaster Rovers last night - but a late Matthew Coad penalty could have won it.

The draw heralded a start for Kevin Donovan, who looked strong over 90 minutes after his return as a substitute in the debacle against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday. Donovan has been out for nearly two months with a groin strain.

Scottish Under-18 defender Graeme Law saw out a 45-minute challenge on his hamstring.

It was also a chance for caretaker manager Viv Busby to get a look at 18-year-old centre-half Lee Grant who has returned to his boyhood club from Premiership giants Aston Villa on a month's loan.

Arthur put the Minstermen ahead with a powerful low strike from the edge of the area on 28 minutes. A 48th-minute penalty converted by John McGrath after Michael Staley pulled down Chris Beardsley in the box put them back in contention and Beardsley then volleyed them ahead.

A great piece of play by Arthur and the returning Donovan then paved the way for an equaliser after Arthur turned into space and fired another strike into the far netting.

Byron Webster put Arthur though to go in for a hat-trick but former York goalkeeper Andy Warrington bundled Arthur over.

Unfortunately for City, Coad's penalty was easily saved by the erring 'keeper, who has recently been displaced in the Doncaster senior team by Sunderland's former City loanee Michael Ingham.
