MAKING the highest break ever recorded in pro snook-er wasn't enough to win Jamie Burnett a place in the final stages of this year's Travis Perkins UK Snooker Championship in York.

And despite making snooker history in scoring a 148 in the second qualify-ing round at Prestatyn last month, the 29-year-old Glaswegian didn't earn any extra money as there is no highest break prize for the qualifying rounds this year.

The world number 49 (pictured) made the 148 in the 14th frame of his 9-8 victory over Leo Fernandez.

Normally the maximum is 147, but on this occasion Burnett got a free ball as an extra red. He sank that, added a brown, potted all 15 reds with colours and cleared the table to complete this unique achievement.

Several players have made breaks over 147 in practice or unofficial matches - notably Jamie Cope, who made a 151 while practising in Stoke last year. But this is the first time a break of over 147 has been made in official play.

Burnett missed out on York by losing 9-4 to Barry Hawkins in the third qualifying round.
