THE people of York wore their poppies with pride this morning as they paid their respects to fallen servicemen and women at a Remembrance Day commemoration.
The traditional ceremony was organised by The British Railways Engineers Ex-Servicemen's Association and was attended by veterans, representatives from the Royal Artillery Association, the Royal British Legion, residents, police and visitors.
The gathering fell silent for two minutes at 11am before bugler David Ventress sounded the Last Post and Reveille.
Wreaths were laid by association chairman Charles Glen; GNER chief operating officer Jonathan Metcalfe; and Royal British Legion president Ted Griffiths.
Mr Griffiths, quoting a war memorial inscription, said: "When you go home tell them for your tomorrow we gave our today."
