EVENING Press Yorkshire cricket correspondent Davd Warner is to be awarded the Yorkshire CCC Southern Group's tantalus for 2004 in recognition of his services to Yorkshire cricket.

The tantalus is held for two years and it will be handed over to him at the group's annual dinner in London next Saturday by the previous recipient, Yorkshire's director of cricket, Dvid Byas, who led the county to the Championship title in 2001.

Warner has covered Yorkshire cricket home and away for the Evening Press since 1975 and has twice won the Yorkshire Newspaper Society's Sportswriter of the Year award as well as being highly commended in the Sports Council British Sports Journalism awards.
