Huntington Rovers shook off the early loss of former York City player Iain Dunn to ease in to the fourth round of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup with a 3-1 win at Bishopthorpe.

Dunn limped off after ten minutes with a hamstring injury but despite his absence Leeper Hare York and District league premier division leaders Huntington went ahead a minute later when a pinpoint pass from Craig Macdonald picked out Rob Ellis, who cleverly beat a defender before firing into the roof of the net.

Bishopthorpe responded with some great wing play down the flanks by Dave Kettlewell and Greg Fitzmaurice and only a last ditch clearance off the line by Mark Grandfield preserved Huntington's lead.

The visitors were further ahead against the run of play just before half-time when Chris Dyson scored from the spot after a handball decision.

Glenn Banks' 75th minute diving header sealed Huntington's victory, but Bishopthorpe did manage a consolation from Kettlewell before the end.

Cup holders Haxby United crashed out against Kartiers, a side they have beaten twice this season.

This time Kartiers clinched a 3-2 victory with a solo goal from Glen Littlewood 12 minutes from time. The score was level at the interval with Richard Iggulden and Darren Harrison on target for Haxby while Andrew Richardson and Richard Gladwell (penalty) netted for Kartiers.

Norwich Union, who supplied the shock of the last round, were no match for Dringhouses who romped home 5-1 with goals from Shane Laverack (2), Lee Bond, Mark Woodward and an own goal.

Saturday's shock winners were Copmanthorpe, who have yet to gain a point in the league. This time they put on a master class of finishing to hammer T & L Selby 5-1 with Kieran Darlow (2), Mark Bellah, Tom Hesletine and Terry Hibbert on target. Chris Harkin scored for T & L.

More York FA Cup competition reports will be published in the Evening Press later this week.
