A FESTIVE fun run transformed a York park into a sea of Santas to raise money for youngsters with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.
Children's charity When You Wish Upon a Star held its first York Santa Run at Rowntree Park yesterday, with participants paying £10 for a Santa suit to wear for the 1km course.
Santa's Little Helpers also joined in, donning Christmas hats for their own fundraising run.
Among those taking part in the event were the Friends and Young Friends of Rowntree Park, who held a special tree-dressing event to celebrate receiving a Green Flag award.
The judges' citation for the award, which represents the national standard for parks and green spaces, specifically mentioned the volunteers as being key to the success of the park.
The group was originally established to advise on the park's £1.8 million Heritage Lottery Fund restoration and now has 177 households in its membership list, half of which belong to the Young Friends.
