WITH regard to several recent letters, I too am curious why Peter Edwards (First York) and Terry Walker (public transport planner, City of York Council) have taken it upon themselves to remove without warning the 16A and 25 buses from Beckfield Lane, denying us direct access to Clifton Moor and Monks Cross.

On July 1 at the Acomb ward committee meeting, in the presence of councillors Simpson-Laing and Horton, I asked these two gentlemen if they were happy with the usage of the 16A. Mr Edwards, with Mr Walker's agreement, said "he was more than happy with the usage and trial period and there were no plans to remove this service". He also added that he was pleased with the 25 and was introducing an hourly service.

A few weeks later, the 16A and 25 were confined to history, despite the hard work done by Councillor Simpson-Laing and hundreds of names on petitions to have the 16A reinstated.

What's going on? With four changes this year, First York and City of York Council are confusing passengers and driving them away from buses and back to using cars.

I foolishly thought the plan was the other way round.

W C Moore,

Lochrin Place,

York.
