I WRITE in response to Keith Allan's letter about his delight at the shopping on offer in Middlesbrough (November 26).

I'm sure Mr Allan had a lovely time with his wife and I'm pleased he had such a carefree and uncluttered visit to their fully-pedestrianised precincts.

In York it really is a bind having to dodge those disabled drivers trying to have as good a quality of life as those lucky able-bodied shoppers.

Perhaps they should have a special shopping day - well maybe not a whole day just a couple of hours where they can nip in, whip round M&S for their bits and pieces and then nip off home again. Then they would leave the city centre free so Mr Allan doesn't have to go to Middlesbrough for a shopping expedition without the inconvenience of those dratted disabled drivers.

I don't know how old you are, Mr Allan, but you should consider yourself lucky you have the ability to be able to choose where you want to go, where you want to shop, that you can park and walk from one end of town to the other without having to rest and without having to use walking sticks or having to use a wheelchair.

Jenny Cammidge,

Ouseburn Avenue, York.
