The main failing of this newly-updated book (to include his recent departure from Newcastle United) is that it would have been better had Sir Bobby told the tale himself.

Nobody in football can have packed more into his life than the former Ipswich, Barcelona and England manager but, while most of the facts are present in this biography, it contains none of the subject's fascinating insight.

The superstars he played alongside, against and managed cry out for opinions from the well-loved and respected 71-year-old.

There are, however, a few snippets of information that I was unaware of, including the fact that he took just one day off after the 1990 World Cup finals before starting his new job at PSV Eindhoven and that York City were among eight clubs interested in Robson as a teenager.

Otherwise, the book will tell you little that you don't already know about one of English football's finest ambassadors but it does include some great photographs.
