York RI produced a good all round performance to defeat Skipton 29-20 at New Lane.

The foundation was laid by the pack who scrummaged well and produced a supply of good ball for the backs.

RI were first on the scoresheet when, after drives from Mallon and Ashman, rucked ball was fed to centre Nick Humphries, who burst through.

Skipton booted a penalty but the hosts did not let things slide and hit back with a try by winger Robin Grice.

RI were in control heading to the break when a wayward pass let in Skipton winger Lacey for a converted try and a 10-10 interval scoreline.

The second half was only five minutes old when RI retook the lead, a Matthew Yates chip being collected by Tim Nash, who eluded the defence to put Grice in again, Yates converting.

Two tries in a ten-minute spell midway through the half ended the game as a contest, hooker Webster and the powerful Mallon crashing through now brittle defence to score, with Yates converting the latter.

Skipton didn't give up and added a late penalty and a converted try.
