YOU devoted most of a page to the Royal Mail congratulating themselves on achieving the near impossible by dealing with incorrectly addressed mail (December 18).

On the same page is a list of simple rules to ensure that your mail gets to its proper destination.

Recently, I had two letters sent to me, one with the full address and correct postcode, the other had one number missing from the postcode: the old postcode of YO2 4JX instead of YO24 4JX was shown.

Someone at the sorting office put this into the Foxwood area bin and, because there was no Heath Close at Foxwood, it was changed by the Post Office staff to "Fir Tree Close" and sent to this address.

Eventually, the mail was redirected to me, but so much for the simple rules. But not simple enough for Royal Mail staff.

AP Cox,

Heath Close,

Holgate, York.
