York City Schools Under 12s footballers came away from Leeds with an impressive 2-1 victory.

They went a goal down midway through the first half but despite driving rain and a strong wind, York hit back in the second period.

James Edmond was on hand to capitalise when the Leeds goalkeeper dropped the ball and he netted from close range.

York's winner came from a good move down the right and as the ball was crossed captain Adam Thornton sold the Leeds defence an outrageous dummy which left Edmond clear to slot the ball home.

Late on, York goalkeeper Tom Young pulled off a great one-handed save to ensure York got the points.

Steve Jarman had a solid game in York's defence.

York City Schools U13s could not make it a double over Leeds despite putting in one of their best performances of the season.

They went down to a late goal after creating the better chances in a tough physical encounter.

York should have gone ahead in the first half when two chances fell to Danny Montgomery, who was unable to convert.

Leeds came in to the game after half-time and scored with their only real opportunity seven minutes from the end.

York fought hard to find an equaliser but despite the efforts of Ryan Qualter in midfield could not draw level.

Centre-back George Riley was York's player of the match, while Marco Shepherd and Nick Thompson ran for everything in attack and Adam Scorefield had another composed game at left-back.
