THE shock of the fourth round of the York FA Saturday Junior Cup saw Rawcliffe Rangers knock out Barmby Moor in an incredible encounter.

For long periods, Barmby Moor, of Leeper Hare York and District League division two, had the game under control and with ten minutes remaining were leading 4-2 thanks to goals from Robby Pipe (2), Mike Barker and Gavin Kemp.

But Rangers, currently in the lower reaches of division three, fought back to level with goals from Terry Taylor (2), Darren Mallinson and Toby Brooks.

And there was worse to follow for Barmby when in injury time Taylor completed his hat-trick with a superb header following great play by Darren Brandon, and Brandon then added a further goal at the death as the under- dogs won 6-4.

There was another thriller at Sheriff Hutton where home goalkeeper Mark Phillips was the star as they beat Rufforth United Reserves on penalties.

It was 3-3 at the end of normal time, with Dale Phillips shining for Sheriff Hutton with a hat-trick. Simon Roy then netted to give Sheriff the lead in extra-time but Rufforth scored to force the game to penalties, which Sheriff Hutton won 3-2.

Hero Phillips made a hat-trick of penalty saves, one in normal time and two in the shoot-out.

Amotherby and Swinton took an early lead against Huntington Reserves with a Bobby Brewer headed goal, but Huntington struck back and by half-time led 3-1 with goals from Neil Cadywold, Graham McDonald and Chris Dower.

In the second half, man of the match Dower added a further counter and, while Simon Wall netted twice for Amotherby, Huntington had enough to progress.

Riccall United overcame a dodgy start to win 3-2 at Poppleton United.

Pop dominated early on with Craig Theaker going close, and it was slightly against the run of play when, following a sliced clearance, Darren Davis cracked the ball into the roof of the net to put Riccall ahead.

Poppleton hit the crossbar following great play by Ben Lister on the left wing but four minutes before half-time drew level with a brave diving header from Carl Shepherd.

However, straight from the restart Riccall attacked and Jason Roughley netted from ten yards and in the second half the Riccall forwards took control and, following good play by Andy Cronian, Jack Rogers out-paced the Pop defence to increase the lead.

With seven minutes remaining, Chris Balmer reduced the arrears for Poppleton but it was too late.

With 25 minutes of their tie left to play, Bishopthorpe were two goals up against Ouseburn United, with both goals coming from Paul Broadbent. But Ouseburn then struck a purple patch with goals from Darren Horsefield (2), Richard White and Martin Crowle for a 4-2 victory.

Many people's favourites for the cup, Dringhouses Reserves, had needed extra-time to defeat a plucky Civil Service side 4-0 with goals from Steve Cross, Danny Cocker, Jamie Backhouse and Darren Smith.

Stamford Bridge Reserves defeated Wigginton Grasshoppers Reserves by the odd goal in five thanks to strikes by Matthew Beckett, Gareth Owens and Mark Smith Junior.

Luke Dove was the hero for Elvington as they beat Moor Lane 2-1. Dove opened the scoring on 15 minutes and doubled the lead early in the second half with his 22nd goal of the season.

Gareth Akers clipped the ball into the net to reduce the arrears but although Moor Lane deserved more from the game, Elvington progressed.
