Two years of silence has ended at St Mary's Church in Askham Richard.
The bells had fallen still after an over-enthusiastic campanologist got his clappers in a twist.
No one in the congregation had a ladder long enough to free the bells.
But after a phone call to Acomb fire station, villagers can ding dong merrily again.
That's the great thing about our fire service.
