The magnificent Travis Perkins UK Snooker Championship trophy won't be the only glittering prize on display at York's Barbican Centre during the big tournament.

The new Masters trophy will be on show in the CueZone area in the lower gym.

Leeds ace Paul Hunter became the first player to win it when he beat Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-9 in a thrilling final at Wembley Conference Centre in February.

This trophy, made of Waterford Crystal and in the shape of a snooker frame triangle, is a new one because the previous cup was sponsored by a tobacco company and their link with sport ended two seasons ago.

Hunter came back from 7-2 down to lift the new trophy and take the Masters title for the third time in the last four years.

Outside the world championship the Masters is the longest-running tournament on the world snooker circuit, first being played in 1975.

The trophy will be a sparkling part of a snooker exhibition which is the main theme of the CueZone area this year, featuring highlights in the careers of the top players.

There will also be a display of Bishopthorpe artist Simon Crossley's 'pop' art portraits of the leading 16 players.

PlayStation pods, always a popular attraction among the younger snooker fans in the CueZone, will also be in operation.
