TRADES unionists are pressing ahead with a public meeting on York's controversial parking charges - and say City of York Council has been invited to attend.
The meeting will take place at 7pm on Thursday, July 22, at the York Railway Institute near the railway station.
The York Trades Union Council, which is organising the event, said it would provide the people of York with an opportunity to have their say on city centre parking charges, yellow lines and residents parking charges.
The meeting will come just over week before a planned lobby of the council on July 29.
The TUC claims the new charges are an additional tax on York people, which will have a detrimental effect on the city's commercial life and could result in the loss of jobs.
Coun Ann Reid, executive member for planning and transport, said she had only just been informed about the meeting, and did not yet know all the details.
She said more information would be needed before it could be decided who, if anyone, from the council should attend.
