EVEN Morris dancers have joined the protests against York's evening parking charges and restrictions.
The Ebor Morris group's representative, Jonathan Brockbank, submitted a petition to City of York Council, complaining that dancing in Kings Square on a summer Monday evening would be more expensive and inconvenient for both them and other Morris groups they invited to the city.
A report to tomorrow's meeting of the executive member for planning and transport advisory panel says the dancers' comments should be taken on board during a review of parking to be conducted in the autumn.
Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing, Labour's transport spokesperson, claimed it was a "disgrace" that the suggested reaction to the dancers' appeal should be to "sweep it under the carpet."
She said: "The Morris group want action now and if they are told they can't expect any change or positive response until sometime next year they will quite rightly feel utterly let down.
"Yet again we are hearing of a community group that is struggling in the face of these new charges," she said.
