VIV Busby is prepared to continue in his caretaker role for the time being despite offering to step down after last Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Burton Albion.

He will be in charge for tomorrow's vital Conference clash against Morecambe at the newly-named KitKat Crescent.

He said: "I've had a chat with the board and, at the moment, we are carrying on as normal. I just felt so emotional about the situation on Saturday and felt something had to be done and if it means me losing my job for the benefit of the club then so be it.

"We could carry on the way we are but that happened last season and at the end of it the club were relegated. There are 17 games to go and I'm still upbeat about the job. I love it but I think I had to make an offer to step aside.

"For now, we have got a massive game against Morecambe and we have all got to get together and get a team out to put in a workman-like performance and get three points.

"It is of paramount importance that we don't go down. If we did, there would be real troubles for the club but if we stay up we can consolidate, build and gradually get back into the Football League."
