COMMUNICATION is the name of the game for a York business which aims to revolutionise the way companies provide internal information.

The Morrice Partnership, a communication and design consultancy based at York Science Park, wants its idea for an entirely new 'intranet' (internal internet) system to be recognised in the Best Use of New Technology category in the 2004 Evening Press Business of the Year Awards.

They say their new system - Net p.a. - "is poised to change the world of internal communication".

They came up with the idea after businesses reported a catalogue of problems with intranet systems, from too much data to losing vital information when employees left a business.

Their aims for the product would be a system which could sit alongside existing software, but which would automatically connect employees to information through a communication network.

The company is also pitching for the Best Business and Education Link title. Supported by NYBEP - the business and education partnership for York and North Yorkshire - and the University of York, the company is the marketing partner for Skillsfest, an education festival to take place in December at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

It is also recruiting businesses to contribute to Industry Challenges at the festival - a chance for young people aged between 14 and 16 to operate as a limited company, developing an enterprise.

Members of the Creation network in York, the Morrice Partnership also aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry through initiatives such as the Student Awards, launched by Venturefest York in February this year.
