MORE turf race meetings in England were under threat today from the Arctic weather.

The latest meeting at risk is tomorrow's card at Haydock, though it is frost and not snow which is the problem.

Haydock will hold a precautionary inspection at 7am tomorrow ahead of their afternoon meeting.

Temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing tonight and although the track has seen no snow, clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright is concerned by the threat of frost.

"We have had temperatures of minus three overnight and the track is frozen at the moment," he said today.

"We will see how much time it takes today before we are raceable and we will then have that knowledge to take into tomorrow.

"We obviously have grounds for concern with the forecast frost but we have had no snow yet and it should not arrive until after racing."

This afternoon's jumps meeting at Doncaster was called off this morning and Fontwell was also in doubt, while the weekend meetings at Kempton and Newcastle are under threat.

Monday's racing at Carlisle and yesterday's Sedgefield meeting fell victim to the big freeze.

Flat racing at the all-weather tracks will go ahead, though.

At Southwell tomorrow, my Nap vote is awarded to Gypsy Fair in the Press Red For Cash Prizes On ITV Maiden Stakes.

Trained near Thirsk by David Barron, Gypsy Fair showed her appreciation for being dropped to five furlongs on this course last time when she failed by just half-a-length to get the better of Cerebus, the favourite, after the pair had pulled clear of the remainder.

Tackling the same distance tomorrow, Gypsy Fair is taken to follow up.

Tomorrow's tips:

Southwell

1.40 Attorney, 2.10 Gypsy Fair (Nap), 2.40 Newtonian, 3.10 Aveiro, 3.45 Pawan, 4.20 Molinia, 4.50 Rocky Reppin.

(precautionary inspection at 7am tomorrow).

1.50 Dont Call Me Derek, 2.20 Schuh Shine, 2.50 Nick's Choice, 3.20 Ebony Light, 3.55 Baron Monty, 4.30 He's The Gaffer, 5.00 The Butterwick Kid.
