FOR more than a year now regular road users travelling along the A64 to Tadcaster have been aware of the roadworks at Bilbrough and Colton lane ends. We know when the speed restriction of 40mph starts and ends; the signs have been there all along.

The de-restriction boards have been taken about 500 metres further along the road. Travelling towards York, the signs are near the Buckles Inn.

Lo and behold, a police is sitting at the Buckles with a speed camera clicking away at most motorists who thought the signs had blown down. This is very underhanded.

Why remove the de-restriction speed board and move it further on leaving no sign at all of the original A-frame?

The police were obviously aware that motorists were going to travel at more than 40mph in that new 500-metre section of road so why start to film them without the signs being sufficient?

In the last year I have travelled that section of road several times a day and not seen any police activity, then when an easy fishing-in-a-barrel opportunity arises they are there day after day.
