IN the 1940's I worked on the construction of Pocklington Airfield, employed by Tarrans of Hull, contractors to the Air Ministry.

The firm sent out gifts for Christmas and former employees were invited while on leave to visit their factory in Hull which was producing "prefabs".

Looking back to my visit I wondered why a local York firm could not do the same and then send them over to house the victims of this Boxing Day's horrific earthquake? It's worth a thought.
