KEVIN Donovan is the early leader of the Preston and Duckworth Jewellers and Evening Press Player of the Month for March contest after a midfield master-class in Tuesday night's 2-1 victory over Barnet.

The former Grimsby midfielder scored the Minstermen's first goal and was both our choice and the selection of our readers as man of the match.

That resulted in five points towards the Player of the Month standings and three in our Player of the Year competition, moving him up to fifth behind leader Dave Merris, who extended his lead by a point as our third-highest rated player.

Donovan's fellow goalscorer Jon Maloney collected the remaining two points.

To be in with a chance of presenting next month's award and winning a Tissot watch, don't forget to e-mail your top man in any of City's games throughout March to dave.flett@ycp.co.uk or you can drop in your selection at our 76-86 Walmgate offices.
