KIT KAT'S recent transformation into an assortment of weird and wonderful flavours has taken a new twist.

The Kit Kat Caramac, a combination of the original chocolate snack and the Caramac bar, is the company's latest limited edition to hit the shops.

It received a mixed reception from York chocoholics.

New life was breathed into the iconic brand with the introduction of other unusual flavours, including White Lemon & Yogurt, Luscious Lime and Christmas pudding.

A low-carb version for dieters was also brought out in July 2004.

The Kit Kat Caramac, which is being produced at Nestl's Wigginton Road factory, is available until May as a four-finger bar.

A spokesperson for Nestl Rowntree said: "The concept of bringing out new flavours is all about re-energising the brand and being innovative.

"People who like chocolate bars, especially Kit Kats, are going to be inquisitive and want to try different flavours.

"Consumers seem to be enjoying it and it has been selling very well."

The Kit Kat is the UK's bestselling chocolate bar.

York shoppers give their verdict on the new Kit Kat Caramac

Charles Farrington, 33, of Hollis Crescent, York, who likes the original Caramac bar, said: "It's a good combination and it has a nice sweet caramel taste."

Michaella Simpson, 20, of Brecksfield, Skelton, said she loved Kit Kats but thought the new bar was too rich. "If you eat too many you'd be sick."

Wendy Bromwich, 63, from York, said: "I quite like it and it has a tang to it, but it's too sweet."

Brad Randell, 21, of Eldon Street, said: "It's a good idea, but it doesn't taste like a Kit Kat or a Caramac. I wouldn't get over-excited about it."

Johnny Lancaster, 22, of Carlton, said he preferred it to the original Kit Kat.

"It looks good and has a nice, sweet taste."
