HOSTS York RUFC added six pieces of silverware to their trophy cabinet after a highly successful youth festival last weekend.

More than 60 teams from across the region descended on Clifton Park for the two-day tournament featuring nine different age groups - and six of them were won by York.

The biggest win went to York's Under-14s, who beat Darlington 31-0 in the final, while the U15s won the league format sevens tournament for their age group, with Sheffield taking second.

York U13s came close to making it seven wins for the club but lost 10-14 to Yarnbury in the final.

Sunday's minis competitions yielded four more wins and one shared prize for the hosts. The under-12s bounced back from a first match defeat to Derby to beat them 5-0 in the final.

The U7s final failed to live up to the excitement of the semis but York emerged on top with a 5-3 defeat of Pocklington.

The U11s won their section and the U10s shared the plate with Derby, while the U8s missed out on a final berth after a tense semi-final with Darlington that ended 10-9.

If there was an award for most impressive performance, it would have gone to the U9s, who won their age group without conceding a try - the perfect preparation for their Prudential Cup match at Nottingham on Good Friday.
