YORK'S Lib Dem leader, Steve Galloway, attacked the Osbaldwick Parish Council ('Parish Hump', March 16).

The accusation of being "irresponsible" should be directed towards the city council not at the parish council.

Thankfully, they are responding to the wishes of most residents by calling for a public inquiry into the controversial Derwenthorpe development.

It is your council, Coun Galloway, which should heed the warning about wasting taxpayers' money. Is it not the city council which are in hock to the developer of this site, Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, for £1.25 million if it does not go ahead?

It is, therefore, no surprise that you give Coun Morley your full support for his continuing allegiance to the party line, fine for the council's agenda, but it does nothing for local people's views and democracy.

Coun Morley's opinion on the development is well known; he has explained them along with his stance regarding a public enquiry at both parish council and ward committee meetings.

For Coun Galloway to accuse Osbaldwick Parish Council of dragging the "community into a disreputable wrangle" by trying to force him to explain his views is, therefore, rubbish.
