WAS amazed at the latest news regarding the banning of cycles from the racecourse during Royal Ascot week. The residents of York are being treated in a disgraceful way by the city council.
As a resident of Copmanthorpe it was bad enough being informed that we may not use the Tadcaster Road exit from our village so that racegoers can get to the races. Now we cannot use bikes on the Knavesmire either.
The council should be reminded who it is who pays the council tax to fund their roads. It is not the visitors from other towns who are being given priority, but the local people who are being banned from actually using some of them.
For most York residents Ascot week is going to be a week of complete misery.
