YORK City Knights made a disappointing start to their National League Two campaign after being mauled 34-18 at home by Swinton Lions.
The Knights never recovered from conceding three unanswered tries inside 25 minutes to go 18-0 down and, despite eventually scoring three of their own through Neil Law and Mark Cain, they fell short of the standard expected of the bookies' starting title favourites.
The below-par performance later led coach Mick Cook to call for consistency if they are to have any hope of making a genuine impact on the NL2 promotion race.
Due to a pre-match colour clash Swinton had to rely on amateur club New Earswick All Blacks to loan them their playing shirts for the game.
