York Hospital is one of the city's biggest employers. Huge pressures are placed on its resources as patient expectations increase and Government targets become ever greater.

Running such a large and multifaceted organisation is a highly demanding job, particularly as York Hospital must be accountable for every penny of taxpayer money it spends.

We congratulate them for balancing the books - a feat achieved without the help of a multi-million pound lottery win.
