YORK RI'S forward power was the decisive factor in defeating Bramley Phoenix 35-17 in Yorkshire Three.

An injury to Tim Nash forced RI to bring Angus Smith into the centre to join Tom Greaves who was replacing the injured Nick Humphries.

Despite the changes RI quickly took command with two Stuart Watson penalties but the visitors reduced the arrears on the half hour mark with a penalty.

Drives by Garrett Mallon and Nathan Ashman put RI on the attack and when the ball was spun wide winger Fatai Oketete rounded the full-back to score in the corner.

RI looked to be in control but a mistake in defence let in Bramley for a converted try.

A superb break by Greaves, in which he beat four of the Bramley backs, was carried on by Ashman who powered over.

Two tries in a ten-minute spell by Mallon, both converted by Watson, put RI out of sight.

Although Bramley did reduce the arrears with another converted try, RI's acting captain Alec Webster had the last say when he charged down a kick to touch down in the corner.
