SOME fresh faced girls and boys line up for a picture.

The hairstyles may have changed, but the memories are still vivid.

The main photograph shows pupils from St Wilfrid's School in York in 1937. It was dropped in by Rita Harrison, of Burnholme, York.

Sister Dennis is the teacher, and some of the pupils identified include Dorothy Jackson, Joan Ellerby and Bernard Hall.

But here is a question: "Does anyone know who the girl in the second row wearing the dark gymslip is?" writes Mrs Harrison.

"Someone says it is the late Doreen Routledge, but her daughters are not sure."

If anyone can help please get in touch. The contact details are in the VE Day panel below.

Peter Howdle of Riccall sent in a picture of some likely lads; in the picture on the bottom right, he is second from the right on the second row. "The photo was taken at the back of Ashfield House," he writes.

"This was then the Junior School Of Building, now Ashfield Technical College. My first report was dated July 1946.

"I wonder how many of these young 'striplings', average age 14, are now flying with the angels." Finally, the young sportsmen are Scarcroft Boys Champion Swimming Team from around 1943, a picture sent in by Jean Johnson, ne Wormley.

"It was taken in the schoolyard at Knaresborough. We shared half their school because Poppleton Road was bombed and they moved into ours."

Thanks for all your contributions, they are always appreciated.

When peace broke out

THANKS to the many of you who have been in touch with memories of VE Day.

There is still time to contribute to our special supplement out later this month, marking the day 60 years ago when peace returned to Europe.

We would love to hear from you if you have special memories of VE Day.

Did you take part in a street party, or celebrate in another way?

Were you in York city centre, in the suburbs, elsewhere in Yorkshire - or serving abroad?

If you have photographs we could reproduce, so much the better.

Here are all the contact details...
