THE last poignant days of Pope John Paul II resonated around the world, and his death has affected untold millions, Catholics and non-Catholics, followers of other faiths, and even the secular.
While Catholics in York were paying their tributes at the weekend, moving memories will have been stirred of the Pope's visit to the city in May 1982, when more than 100,000 people flocked to Knavesmire.
An estimated two million are expected to line the streets of Rome later this week for the biggest funeral the world has ever seen. What a fitting conclusion that will be to a remarkable life.
