YORKSHIRE were going for the kill against Somerset at Headingley today.

Somerset, after being made to follow-on, were 210 in arrears with six second innings left at the start today.

Ian Harvey and Tim Bresnan's partnership of 238 was Yorkshire's best eighth wicket stand in a home match and surpassed only by the 292 between Bobby Peel and Lord Hawke against Warwickshire at Edbaston in 1896.

Harvey's unbeaten 209 was four short of equalling Herbert Sutcliffe's 213 at Dewsbury in 1924 which is the top score by a Yorkshire batsman against Somerset.

Dean Kruis grabbed three wickets in nine deliveries without conceding a run when Somerset started their second innings.

Marcus Trescothick, the Somerset skipper, was absent having gone home to Taunton because his wife is expecting a baby.
