I WRITE in response to Mike Bentley (Saturday Soundoff, April 2).

Feel free, Mr Bentley, to knock at my door (the Editor will give you my address) and I will let you go to the local shops, my dentist and doctor, on my motorised buggy, then see what your attitude will be.

I am a grey-haired grandmother (but not a hooligan) and used my savings to buy the buggy which cost £2,800, so not cheap, Mr Bentley?

You are fortunate to be fit enough not to need one and I hope you never shall, but do you have a car in which to get about?

Do you park on the pavements or dropped corners for the disabled? Many inconsiderate drivers do, making it impossible for us to get by, so we have to risk our lives by going on to the roads or reversing all the way back.

I thank John Lancaster for his comments. As he says, your distasteful remarks are worthy of an apology, and I require one, please.

Mrs J Rush,

Richmond Street,

Layerthorpe, York.
